Vestibular Assessments (Dizziness)

Dizziness can be caused by many different problems. The vestibular portion of the inner ear is vital in the maintenance of balance. Various diseases can effect the vestibular system and cause dizziness. However, so can many non-inner ear related problems. For example, the range of possibilities include something as simple as dehydration to as complicated as a brain tumor. The key to treatment is an accurate, initial diagnosis. Our state of the art equipment helps us diagnose inner ear problems.

Our VNG (videonystagmography) tests allow us to check the vestibular system of your inner ear. This is a non-invasive test. Using hot and cold air in the ear canal, the vestibular system can be stimulated. No messy electrodes are needed as were in the older ENG (electronystagmography) test. Instead, comfortable, lightweight goggles which house a infrared camera, can be used.

Often with inner ear dysfunction, visual disturbances

can occur. While these disturbances can be so subtle that they are not readily apparent to you or your family, their presence can be a clue in the diagnosis. Our VNG tests are sensitive enough to pick up these disturbances.

If you're experiencing dizziness, call our office to schedule an appointment with our physicians and our audiologists.
