Chronic Cough

Chronic cough can be a bothersome condition for both patients and their families. The most common reasons for common cough include allergic rhinitis (hay fever), asthma, and GERD (gastro esophageal reflex). Being able to evaluate the underlying reason for your cough enables us to treat it effectively.

Eosinophilic Esophagitis

More commonly referred to as EoE, eosinophilic esophagitis (ee-uh-sin-uh-fil-ik, uh-sof-uh-JIE-tis) it is an allergic inflammatory condition of the esophagus (the tube that connects the mouth to the stomach) where there is a build-up of white blood cells called eosinophils. The buildup of these cells causes inflammation of the esophagus, which can make swallowing solid foods difficult. While typically diagnosed by a biopsy completed by gastroenterologist, we can assist you in the treatment of EoE by medication management and food elimination diets.

Dermatitis

This is a common condition that is characterized by inflammation of the skin. Atopic dermatitis is commonly referred to as eczema. This chronic itchy & flaky skin condition can run in families and commonly occurs with other allergic conditions such as allergies and asthma. Most people who develop eczema do so before age 5. Treatment consists of skin care measures, allergen avoidance, and for some people allergy shots

Contact dermatitis can occur when the skin touches a substance, becomes irritated and causes a rash. There are two kinds of contact dermatitis: irritant dermatitis (which is the most common type) and allergic dermatitis. Treatment includes removing the substance that is causing the irritation and is generally managed with topical ointments or creams.

Immunodeficiency disorders

Immunodeficiency can happen when a person's immune system (defense mechanism) is not working properly or when part of the immune system is missing. Having an immune disorder may mean a person is unable to fight off infections (i.e. from bacteria or viruses) as well as other people. Valley ENT's board certified allergist specializes in the treatment of primary immunodeficiency disorders

Food Allergies

Food allergies can be life threatening and traditionally treatment has been very limited. Our practice is now introducing the groundbreaking implementation of food oral immunotherapy (OIT) for peanuts. Food oral immunotherapy takes miniscule amount of the food you (or your child) is allergic to and very slowly gives you this food while in a supervised clinical setting. Like allergy shots, with OIT your body may begin to become tolerate (or desensitized) to the food you were previously allergic to. This process must be undertaken with the direct supervision of a board-certified allergist and should never be tried at home. This process involves weekly appointments for several months and close ongoing monitoring thereafter. In order to see if you are a candidate for peanut OIT, call our offices for an in-depth evaluation.
