Ishrat Hakim, M.D., Curriculum Vitae
Dr. Hakim has been practicing in Arizona since 2002 and is one of the founding members of Valley ENT. He practices General Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (ENT) with special interest in ear disease and hearing loss, surgical treatment of thyroid tumors, sleep apnea, nasal and sinus problems, pediatric ENT, and skin cancer including reconstruction after skin cancer surgery.
He has published scientific articles on sleep apnea, treatment of nasal obstruction, and skin cancer. Dr. Hakim earned his bachelors degree from Cornell University in New York. He stayed close to family to attend medical school at the State University of New York in Stony Brook. He did his surgical internship in Detroit where working at an inner city hospital provided a solid foundation in surgical principles. He completed his ENT residency at Stanford University in Palo Alto where he had the privilege of learning from some of the pioneers in the field of Otolaryngology.
Dr. Hakim has had the honor of being awarded the Phoenix Magazine Top Doctor award multiple times and is humbled by this recognition from his peers. However, even more dear to him is the satisfaction gained from the successful treatment of his patients. The simple thank you card, home made cookies or the referral of a family member or friend from a happy patient is what means the world to him.
Dr.Hakim likes to be involved in the community. He does pro bono work for charitable organizations such as the Mission of Mercy and has also volunteered for local Hospice organizations.
When not working, Dr. Hakim enjoys spending time with his family. His wife is a Nurse Practitioner who loves to travel. Both of them love the great Arizona outdoors with its hiking, bird watching, and outdoor activities such as golf. Dr. Hakim is an avid reader. He also likes to draw and someday, hopes to be able to paint half as well as his mother can.
